Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.)

About the Program

Media Informatics combines content from classical computer science studies with artistic aspects of media design and findings from perceptual psychology. The six-semester Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) program teaches students about digital information processing and the required digital communication techniques. Students develop an understanding of digital media principles and learn how to design, program, and implement software. The curriculum includes foundational computer science courses such as software development, theoretical computer science, and databases, as well as mathematics courses for computer scientists. There are also specialized courses for media informatics students, including media psychology courses and courses in Media Art & Design at the Saarbrücken University of Fine Arts. The program is very practice-oriented with project work in small teams, where students learn professional use of multimedia technologies for audio and image processing. The program prepares graduates for a wide range of careers in research, industry, and the service sector, with potential employers including multimedia companies, advertising agencies, software development and telecommunications companies, broadcasting corporations, and publishers.
