About the Program

Medienbildung is a supplementary qualification for future teachers at gymnasiums, secondary schools, special education schools, and primary schools. In this supplementary subject, students acquire practical and theoretical foundations for teaching and learning with and about media. The program imparts knowledge, skills, and abilities that are essential for modern and confident pedagogical action with and teaching about media in all school types and subjects. At the same time, the supplementary subject increases understanding of the media-shaped living environments of today's student generations and expands the media options of graduates. This refers to their own teaching activities, but also to the teaching of these knowledge, skills, and abilities to students. The goals of the study subject include: imparting media educational and media scientific foundations and a critical understanding of media literacy; expanding knowledge and skills to analyze and interpret the formal and content-related design possibilities of media products; acquiring relevant knowledge in the field of media ethics, media impact research, and media law; developing a well-founded understanding of current media systems and their use by children and adolescents in a social context; and planning, developing, applying, and evaluating didactically and methodically justified uses of different media in teaching-learning processes and arrangements.
