About the Program

The research-based, one-year Master program in "Middle Eastern Studies" builds on the four-year BA in Middle Eastern Studies (International) and expands specialized, practical linguistic and intercultural competencies. Students will be prepared both for independent scholarly work (doctorate), as well as able to apply complex methods and process problems. The program is interdisciplinary: students attend Master modules from the range of courses of the Center for Near and Middle Eastern Studies (CNMS), in accordance with their individual skills and interests, supplemented by subject-specific linguistic training and supported by a module on theories and methodology, as well as a cross-subject, interdisciplinary colloquium. The program imparts both humanistic and cultural knowledge, as well as knowledge of political, economic and regional studies. Graduates can work in fields such as international institutions and organizations, journalism, media and public relations, development collaboration, political and entrepreneurial consulting, science, education and science management, media, museums, and publishing.
