About the Program

The 'Midwifery primary qualification' is a dual full-time course offered since winter semester 2023/24. Each semester includes a theoretical block at Landshut University of Applied Sciences and a practical block at one of the cooperating practice facilities. Students receive a training contract and training allowance from the practice partner. The program trains midwives as highly qualified specialists for holistic care of women during pregnancy, birth, postpartum, breastfeeding and family formation, as well as for healthcare of newborns and infants. The degree program concludes with a Bachelor of Science degree and the state examination for midwives, authorizing graduates to work as midwives in all European Union countries. The program follows the Act on the Study and Profession of Midwives (Midwifery Act - HebG) which reformed midwifery training in Germany, making it exclusively available through academic degree programs.
