About the Program

EMMIR provides state of the art education in theoretical concepts, empirical methods and transdisciplinary approaches to migration studies. The curriculum takes into account all forms of migration and displacement, addressing intercultural conflict resolution mechanisms, multi cultural governance issues and global/regional integration. The program follows a mobility path: Semester one starts in Oldenburg with intensive phase focusing on key areas in migration studies and intercultural relations, followed by modules on transdisciplinary methods/methodology and theory. For semester two all students move to Stavanger to contextualize their studies. In the third semester, students work in thematic research teams with project-based internships at partner universities in Europe, Africa or India. The fourth semester is dedicated to thesis writing. EMMIR is the first African-European-Asian Erasmus Mundus Master Course in Migration Studies, jointly run by three African, four European, and two Asian partners.
