About the Program

Music is considered to be the most emotionally effective aesthetic medium in human culture. Regardless of age and origin, it has a great effect on everyone. It is also an important means of communication and expression. Further training in the field of music education is geared towards the emotional and cultural needs of older people. It focuses on both planned and situational musical activities in educational institutions and facilities for the elderly, also in cooperation with day care centers and schools. In addition to teaching basic gerontological knowledge and specific methods of elementary music pedagogy (EMP), the course offers suggestions for singing and making music with older people. The Music Geragogy certificate program offered by the University of Music Würzburg comprises seven thematically structured weekends (15 ECTS in total), independent literature study and a practical project to be documented for the examination. The further training ends with a final examination (planning and implementation of a music project with written documentation and colloquium) which, if passed, results in a graded certificate as a "Music Geragogue" from the University of Music Würzburg.
