Master of Education (M.Ed.)

About the Program

The Master of Education in Music at the Mainz School of Music is designed for those who love music and want to share their enthusiasm with young people. The program goes beyond the basics of the bachelor's degree, deepening students' academic, artistic, and pedagogical competencies while specifically preparing them for work as music teachers in high schools (Gymnasien). The focus is not only on developing musical skills but also on transferring knowledge to the school environment. Students engage intensively with understanding and teaching musical practice in its diversity and address current challenges such as designing inclusive and diversity-conscious music lessons. Through teaching internships and practical projects, students learn to develop and implement independent teaching concepts and gain valuable experience working with students. The program consists of three main areas: Artistic Practice for Schools, Ensemble Practice and Music Theory, and Musicology and Music Didactics in Dialogue. Students can also specialize through elective modules.
