Musikwissenschaft Kulturen der Musik im historischen, medialen und globalen Kontext

Master of Arts (M.A.)

About the Program

The Master's program is broadly designed in terms of content and methodology, divided into three music-related research and teaching areas: Historical Musicology, Music and Media, and Ethnomusicology. Students can specialize in one of these areas or pursue interdisciplinary approaches by choosing the cross-sectional area 'Integrative Musicology'. In Halle, 'music' is examined in a particularly diverse way - focusing on social, cultural, and aesthetic discourses, including current topics such as globalization, digitalization, and diversification. Within the individual areas, there are further emphases that provide the study in Halle with some unique features, such as a strong concentration on music and sound in media, a special focus on music from the Caribbean and Persia, and specializations in editing practice, 18th-century music, pop music, and experimental music. In addition to high flexibility (study progression), studying in the Handel city is characterized by an excellent supervision ratio and modern teaching and research, for example through teamwork in small groups.
