Organisational Communication

Master of Arts (M.A.)

About the Program

The Master's program in Organizational Communication addresses the increased importance of communication for organizations (such as companies, associations, social organizations, political parties, administrations, etc.) in various fields of action (such as politics, culture, business, or health), both internally - to members or employees - and externally. As a communication science master's program, it deals with the social conditions, consequences, and meanings of various forms of communication in relation to organizations and the process of organizing. Unlike the Bachelor's program in Communication Science, which covers the entire field, the Master's program enables specialization: It introduces various theories and methods in the research field of organizational communication, focuses on the communication of individual types of organizations (political and social organizations, companies), and also imparts practical knowledge and skills in areas such as rhetoric, communication training, and concept development for communication measures. The Master in Organizational Communication is thus both research and application-oriented. The goal of the program is to impart knowledge about the characteristics of organizations, the relationships between organizational structures and communication behavior, and the cultural foundations of organizational communication. This knowledge enables the development, implementation, and analysis of communication processes in and from organizations and qualifies university graduates for various communication and leadership tasks in organizations.
