About the Program

The Politics and Society degree program is a foundational exploration of political science and analytical sociology. The program focuses primarily on political theory, political intellectual history, systems of government, international relations, German and European politics and general sociology. Students gain fundamental and profession-relevant insights into interrelating factors and causal interdependencies in politics and society, receiving an introduction to methodologies of empirical social research (data collection) and statistics for the social sciences (data evaluation). The goal is to enable students to understand social and political issues and analyze these within greater contexts by independently applying basic approaches to social, political and state theory. This subject must be combined with a second subject. Possible lines of work include journalism, public relations, media/communications industry, media consulting, parliaments, public authorities, public administration, industry and trade associations, political or other foundations, policy consulting, diplomatic service, international organizations, opinion polling, adult education, private economy, and academia.
