Spatial Strategies

Master of Arts (M.A.)

About the Program

The M.A. SPATIAL STRATEGIES offers advanced training in the analysis, research, and design of action-oriented spaces. Given the increasing dissolution of clear boundaries between individual disciplines such as design, architecture, urbanism, art, and digital media, the program offers a transdisciplinary study positioned at the intersections of these disciplines. The program focuses on temporary spatial designs, scenographic productions, and interventions in public space. Great emphasis is placed on methods of artistic and curatorial practice in relation to space. The curriculum is built around project work and connects theoretical, research-based, and artistic working methods in space. The program spans two focus areas: SPACE AND SCENOGRAPHY, which focuses on scenic design and staging of spaces incorporating new media, and RESEARCH BASED SPATIAL INTERVENTION, which focuses on spatial research, spatial interventions, and projects in public spaces. The MA concludes in the 4th semester with an individual Master's thesis that can have a theoretical or practical focus.
