Spiel and Objekt

Master of Arts (M.A.)

About the Program

The Master's program 'Spiel und Objekt' (Play and Object) reflects the necessity to explore new ways in the aesthetic practice of theatrical storytelling, create spaces for experiments, and simultaneously acquire solid technical and craft knowledge about stage processes. It represents a place for interdisciplinary artistic research at the intersection between the utopia of playfulness and the social relevance of objects in a contemporary, mediatized, social context. The program focuses on contemporary theatrical events at the intersection of performance, objects, new media, and social structures, combining high-quality teaching of theatrical practice with contemporary social and technical discourses. Teaching goals include competence in conception and implementation of complex media-supported theatrical events in both leading and supporting roles. The program provides technical foundations in media design from the perspective of theatrical processes and includes artistic development work in cooperation with students of contemporary puppetry art, directing, and other programs at HfS Ernst Busch.
