About the Program

The Master of Theological Studies (M.Th.St.) is a continuing education program aimed at individuals with a completed university degree (not primarily in theology) and at least five years of subsequent professional experience. The successful completion of the M.Th.St. is recognized in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany and most other Protestant regional churches in Germany as scientific-theological preparation for pastoral ministry. The program provides a broad spectrum of skills and competencies from an evangelical-theological perspective, including understanding Christianity in its biblical sources, history and present; competently presenting the Christian faith in various contexts; developing a reflective understanding for the constructive shaping of individual and social life in Christian responsibility; developing a theologically responsible perspective for the further development of Christian and church life; and reflecting on scientific competencies and professional experiences acquired before entering the master's program.
