Transversale Ästhetik

Master of Arts (M.A.)

About the Program

Transversale Ästhetik (Transversal Aesthetics) deals with forms of art and study that evade established social structures while critically questioning the individual and institution. It builds on the foundation laid by American scholar Cedric Robinson (1940-2016) with what he called the black radical tradition - a 400-year-old tradition that understands aesthetics as the basis for a resistant life. Confronted with the cruelties of racist capitalism, it develops art forms that meet this system transversally, running across its power structures. The focus is on differences that are lived in communal and collaborative action. Transversal Aesthetics takes up these qualities and makes them fruitful for critical study practice.
