About the Program

The elective course 'Improvisation' for Master's students teaches skills in both structured and free improvisation on the student's main instrument/voice and piano, as well as methods for teaching improvisation in individual and group settings. Upon completion, students can express themselves musically without sheet music, perform improvisations and improvised accompaniments in different styles on the piano, use compositions as a basis for improvisation, guide instrumental students in improvisation, integrate into an improvising group, and methodically lead an improvising group. The module consists of individual instruction in improvisation on piano and main instrument, and group improvisation classes. The course requires 720 hours of work over 4 semesters for a total of 24 credit points.
