Wahlfach Master KompositionElective Composition

Master of Music (M.Mus.)

About the Program

The 'Wahlfach Komposition' (Elective Composition) offers creatively ambitious students the opportunity to implement their compositional ideas under the guidance, mediation, and help of a professional composer. Through this, students gain deeper insights into the intellectual and technical prerequisites of professional composing, which will certainly be of great use to them in interpreting contemporary music. This elective must take special account of the student's specific talent, which may also mean that there are more imitations of existing compositional styles from the past and present rather than actually developing original approaches. The program includes individual or group lessons focusing on composition techniques, musical forms, and various genres. Students are required to create at least four compositions in different instrumentations during their studies.
