About the Program

Is it the fault of the economy or politics? Current thinking is dominated by the idea that society is far more productive if the government regulates the economy as little as possible. If this is true, then how far should politics intervene in economic processes? Many concepts have developed out of this question, such as the social market economy or the "Freiburg School". The social market economy in Germany has two objectives: a free market, but also social balance. Is it possible to achieve both goals at once, or does a free market rule out social balance? At the University of Freiburg in the mid-20th century, academics developed the concept of "Ordoliberalism": the state creates a framework of order that guarantees economic competition and the freedom of citizens on the market. The polyvalent dual-major Bachelor in Economics covers not only the principles of management studies, but also economics, and thus offers diverse possibilities for specialization.
