Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light
About
The Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light (MPL) conducts fundamental research in the fields of optical metrology, optical communication, novel optical materials, plasmonics and nanophotonics, and optical applications in biology and medicine. It is part of the Max Planck Society and was established on January 1, 2009, in Erlangen, near Nürnberg. The institute is based on its predecessor, the "Optics, Information and Photonics" Max Planck Research Group, which was founded in 2004 at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. The institute currently consists of four divisions.
