Art Analysis

Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)

About the Program

This course focuses on the examination of historical and contemporary works of art, including painting, photography, classical sculpture, objects, installations, and video. The artwork itself is the central focus, allowing for analysis and interpretation of themes and content through observation and description. Students will learn the fundamental scientific approaches to viewing artwork, enabling them to understand and classify contemporary art without relying on secondary literature. The course aims to develop students' ability to speak freely about other artists' works, helping them describe and reflect on their own work and understand the viewer's perspective. In addition to theoretical work with projected images in the seminar room during the first sessions, there will be various block sessions to view original artworks. Visits will include the Stadtgalerie, sp ce, exhibitions in Schleswig-Holstein/Hamburg, and a walk through Kiel to explore public art.
