About the Program

Art and Media at the University of Oldenburg combines the theory and history of art with various applied art forms. This programme is focused on the relationship between visual culture and its transmission. Theories of art, media and their transmission, as well as aesthetic processes, are understood as alternating complementary and reciprocal scientific approaches. Teaching in this programme is focused on theories used to analyse different kinds of visual media, the institutions of art and media business and their history, broad artistic practices as well as positions and concepts of teaching art. Much emphasis is placed on modern art and media production. This bachelor's programme qualifies graduates to pursue careers in areas of culture that focus on art and media (museums, galleries, media, archives, art sales, journalism, etc.). Those who wish to continue their studies can do so in several related master's programmes.
