About the Program

Business mathematicians apply mathematical methods to economic problems. The Business Mathematics program consists of mathematics, economics, and computer science. This program is offered jointly by the Department of Mathematics and the Department of Business and Economics. The initial phase of the program imparts the fundamental mathematical content and methods in the areas of analysis and linear algebra, as well as computer science. Later on, elements of numeric, optimization, and stochastics are added from the mathematical side, together with studies in business operations, economics, and other (business) mathematical and economic fields. Beginning with the second year of study, introductory software courses are offered in part as block courses (1-2 weeks) during lecture-free periods. The Bachelor's thesis can be written in either mathematics or business and economics. The Bachelor's degree program in Business Mathematics leads to an initial professional qualification. Furthermore, it prepares the graduate to pursue a Master's degree in Business Mathematics or a related field.
