About the Program

Taught, among others, are mathematical and mechanical fundamentals, the principles of support structure planning, support structures and material-specific dimensioning in the framework of what is referred to as the 'Dortmunder Modell Bauwesen'. Within this interdisciplinary educational concept, in particular in the framework of project work, students already learn during their studies about professional practice and cooperation between architects and civil engineers. This fosters team and social skills. This model is unique in Germany and embodies a teaching concept which aims – in addition to giving them a thorough grounding in their subject – to teach students how to work together in an interdisciplinary team with the other stakeholders involved. The projects, on which a group of both Architecture as well as Civil Engineering students work together, play a key role here. In this way, realistic planning tasks form the basis for later successful teamwork in practice.
