About the Program

The Bachelor's program in Civil Engineering at HafenCity University Hamburg has an annual intake capacity of 150 students. The program is designed as a theoretical study in accordance with engineering law and includes project work at the module level. Through seminars, lectures, exercises, laboratory practicals, study projects, and excursions, students acquire fundamental knowledge and skills in civil engineering necessary for planning, execution, and maintenance of buildings in structural and civil engineering, transportation and water management, as well as urban water management. The curriculum comprises 24 specialized modules in civil engineering, one interdisciplinary elective module, and 6 modules from interdisciplinary study offerings. The modules are structured into the following teaching areas: Fundamentals of Civil Engineering Methods, Design and Construction, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, Technical Infrastructure, Surveying, Elective Subject, Interdisciplinary Study Offerings, and Thesis. The program focuses on providing broad knowledge in scientific and construction-specific fundamentals rather than specialization, emphasizing interdisciplinary elements and transdisciplinary orientation. The Bachelor thesis is prepared in close cooperation with construction practice to establish the required practical relevance together with preliminary practice, laboratory internships, excursions, and practice-oriented project work.
