Costume and Make-up Design

Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)

About the Program

The Bachelor's program in Costume and Make-up Design focuses on teaching the fundamentals of visual-narrative design and profession-related competencies. The program enables students to develop their artistic, craft, and scientific skills, qualifying them to communicate and implement their own ideas and concepts in collaboration with directors, scenographers, photographers, production managers, and performers. Costume and Make-up Artists work in various fields of performing and performative arts and scenic productions: theater, video/film, music business, performance, interventions, or intermedial productions. The program develops an understanding of the relationship between space, human/body and object, between society, history, culture and fashion. It sensitizes observational skills in relation to one's environment, promotes the development and expressiveness of an individual attitude towards it, and teaches the translation into artistic practice and the effect and use of design tools. Berlin, with its diverse and vibrant cultural scene and different forms of theater, film, performative art, fashion, and crossover, proves to be an ideal study location that makes early implementation of what has been learned into professional practice possible.
