About the Program

The Data Science program teaches students how data science methods work and how to apply and develop them in practice. Students learn both the theoretical foundations of statistics and practical implementation with modern computer science methods. The program covers how to extract features from large amounts of data ('Big Data') and make the stored knowledge usable for humans and machines. The study program also covers ethical aspects to enable responsible handling of data. The program is based on three scientific areas: Statistics (providing mathematical tools), Computer Science (implementing mathematical models through efficient algorithms and handling data), and Application Domains (applying knowledge to specific fields like medicine).
