About the Program

The Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) program at HFBK Hamburg aims to develop an individual, independent artistic approach that can be expressed in a variety of artistic fields and techniques. Theoretical analysis is an integral part of this goal. The program provides students with practical and theoretical qualifications which carry across the boundaries between disciplines, with a view to the variety of fields in which artistic and scientific skills are required. Students learn to engage with artistic materials, processes and concepts, to produce experimental artwork, develop manual processes to express artistic ideas, present their work to audiences, and analyze their own artwork through artistic theory. The program is divided into departments including Sculpture, Stage design, Design, Film, Graphic art/Typography/Photography, Painting/Drawing, Time-based Media, and Art Theory and History.
