Gemälde- und Skulpturenrestaurierung

Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)

About the Program

The program focuses on the examination, conservation, and restoration of easel paintings on various supports as well as painted sculptures, studying works from early medieval to contemporary art. A special feature of the program is the combination of painting and sculpture restoration, which proves particularly valuable for medieval altarpieces and church furnishings. The program benefits from close collaboration with other restoration programs at ABK and cooperation with the Laboratory for Archaeometry, providing an ideal framework for interdisciplinary student projects. Students also gain insights into the working methods of other disciplines at ABK Stuttgart (Fine Arts, Design, and Architecture) through interdisciplinary courses. The program was established in 1977 as one of the first of its kind in Germany and maintains excellent national and international networks with museums, heritage conservation institutions, and private partners.
