Komposition -

Bachelor of Music (B.Mus.)

About the Program

The Bachelor of Music in Composition program is designed for prospective students who want to develop their creative process and can already present their own compositional works. Students must demonstrate basic music theory knowledge and piano skills in an aptitude test. Composition is not oriented towards teaching conventions or a fixed professional profile, but is based on the necessity to express oneself through music creation. Graduates should be able to represent their works in discourse and bring them into social dialogue. The individual artistic education is at the center with core modules. After completing modules in music practice, musicology/music theory, and teaching, students choose a profile from the fifth semester onwards. In these profiles, individual focuses can be set on music practice or musicology. Through project-based work with external lecturers and instrumental ensembles, students gain access to areas not covered by MHL's own teaching staff. In interdisciplinary music education projects, students develop teaching concepts across degree programs, which can address different social groups. The electronic studio at MHL offers interested students the opportunity to focus on this area through individual choice.
