About the Program

The mandolin course at the Cologne University of Music and Dance in Wuppertal has been the top address for the artistic and pedagogical study of the instrument for three decades. It is currently home to the only professorship in Germany for the mandolin as a major artistic subject. The program offers comprehensive education with artistic skills, didactic and musicological expertise taught by top-class lecturers. The artistic training in mandolin can be extended by studying soprano lute/baroque mandolin. The program includes weekly auditions, chamber music sessions, numerous concert appearances, and opportunities to participate in competitions. After the two-year basic studies, students can choose between profiles in Instrument solo/chamber music or Instrumental Pedagogy. A highlight of the training is participation in the ensemble Cappella dei Leutini, which performs on historical instruments of the lute family.
