Mathematics international

Master of Science (M.Sc.)

About the Program

The two-year Master's program Mathematics International is a scientifically research-oriented program aligned with the needs of the international higher education market. The study is strongly internationally oriented and includes a mandatory semester abroad (unless the qualifying degree was already obtained abroad). The program builds on knowledge acquired in the Bachelor's program in Mathematics. No non-mathematical application subject is required; instead, there is increased specialization in the chosen area of focus and acquisition of other key qualifications (e.g., language, international experience). The educational program emphasizes a broad mathematical education where students learn a wide variety of modern mathematical methods and develop their ability to recognize connections and compare structures. Students are also specifically introduced to current mathematical research in their chosen area of specialization. The program requires 24-28 credit points in advanced lectures in the specialization area, 12 credit points in guided independent scientific work, at least one of two required seminars (3 credit points each), and a Master's thesis (30 credit points). Additionally, the curriculum includes 24-27 credit points in Applied Mathematics, 18-21 credit points in Pure Mathematics, and 6-8 credit points in a non-mathematical elective subject. The program is flexibly structured with no mandatory subjects, but rather prescribed volumes from certain subject catalogs, allowing students to enter research according to their own abilities and inclinations. Mathematical courses are held primarily in English. Graduates typically work in mathematical research and teaching or in business positions that particularly require the flexible application of mathematical methods in non-standardized problem areas.
