Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.)

About the Program

The dual Bachelor's degree course in mechanical engineering combines theory and practice. With the KIA (sandwich-style) degree course (cooperative study program with integrated training), students complete a university degree and vocational training simultaneously. After 4.5 years, graduates receive two valuable degrees: a Bachelor of Engineering and a Chamber of Industry and Commerce certificate as an industrial mechanic, mechatronics technician, or another metalworking profession. The program provides in-depth knowledge in machine design, innovative materials, manufacturing processes, structural analysis, plastics technology, joining technology, and project management. After an initial full-time semester, students alternate between university and training company for four part-time semesters, preparing for the IHK examination after about 2.5 years. The second study phase is full-time with part-time work at the company, including an internship semester and a Bachelor thesis often written in cooperation with industrial companies.
