Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.)

About the Program

The Molecular Life Sciences program combines natural science disciplines to research and understand life at the molecular level. It is interdisciplinary and includes fundamentals from biology, chemistry, medicine, and physics. Life Sciences is a focus area at the University of Hamburg in both research and teaching. Non-university institutions such as the Bernhard Nocht Institute and the Leibniz Institute for Experimental Virology (HPI) are involved in the program. The program aims to impart solid knowledge of biochemistry and the ability to establish connections between scientific disciplines, identify problems, and solve them. The study consists of six semesters with lectures, exercises, practical courses, and seminars. The first four semesters provide basic training in various disciplines from all natural science areas, while the last two semesters offer specialized deepening in biochemical and molecular biological areas. Students can choose from specialized areas including Molecular Cell Biology, Cellular Signal Transduction, Biochemistry of Nucleic Acids, Structural Analysis of Macromolecules, Metabolism and Neurophysiology, and Biotechnology and Informatics.
