Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.)

About the Program

The Bachelor's study programme Nature-Inspired Materials combines chemistry, materials science and biology to prepare students for the development of materials inspired by or derived directly from nature. After the first semester covering basics, students can specialize in one of three areas: Biomaterials (focus on interfaces between materials and biological systems), Material Technology (focus on technical development and production of new materials), or Management (combination of materials science and management for leadership roles). The program features interdisciplinary approaches linking chemistry, biology and materials science, innovative content exploring biological principles for creating new materials, practical relevance through a practical semester or semester abroad, and intercultural competence through studying in English. The curriculum is structured with basic semesters (1-3), specialization semesters (4-5), and final semesters (6-7) including an internship/semester abroad and thesis colloquium. Core subjects include Mathematics, Chemistry of Materials, Physics, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Materials Technology, and FEM and Materials Simulation.
