Physics

Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.)

About the Program

The six-semester Physics program with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree aims to familiarize students with the fundamental interactions and basic properties of matter. Students learn to formulate physical phenomena as mathematical laws and verify them experimentally. The theoretical-physical education covers classical mechanics, electrodynamics, quantum mechanics, and statistical physics, complemented by a series of basic mathematics lectures. The experimental part of the education provides a comprehensive overview of physical phenomena and the underlying laws. The program is completed with elective modules offering interdisciplinary and advanced physical content. An industrial internship can provide targeted preparation for career entry. The Bachelor's program in Physics creates the foundation for both early, practice-oriented professional skills in industry and business, as well as for more scientifically oriented education in a consecutive Master's program with focuses particularly in nano/biosciences and computer science. Research focuses of Saarbrücken Physics include 'soft condensed matter/biophysics', 'solid condensed matter, nanostructures' and 'quantum optics/quantum computing'.
