About the Program

The Product Design program at HfG focuses on designing sophisticated and diverse products, devices, and machines that are integrated into systems. Students learn the language of form and material, their meaning, effect, and relation to function. The program combines theoretical knowledge with design practice, teaching students to investigate, question, and test things while building 3D models. From the first semester, students develop concepts and build prototypes in groups. Starting in the fourth semester, students choose between two specialization areas: Product Design (focusing on innovative products and product systems) and Process Design (focusing on designing processes from first step to defined goal). The 7th semester is dedicated to an independent Bachelor project (BA thesis). The program emphasizes creating helpful, useful, and quality products rather than luxury objects or disposable products.
