Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.)

About the Program

The Bachelor in Quantitative Biology is a new degree programme offered jointly by Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf and the University of Cologne. This programme integrates the study of biology with methods of mathematical modeling, data science, and bioinformatics; the resulting curriculum is strictly oriented toward the needs of modern life science research. In contrast to traditional biology programmes, the modules in the first two years are not divided between botany, zoology, microbiology, etc. Instead, students acquire understanding of the basic principles in biology. The Bachelor programme conveys profound knowledge of biology, including the mastery of important experimental, mathematical, statistical, and computational methods. Its central aim is to empower students to combine biological with quantitative-analytical thinking. The program offers a standard 6-semester track and an extended 8-semester track (quantBio+) that provides more flexibility for international experiences and intensive research in academic or industrial settings.
