Vocal Performance

Bachelor of Music (B.Mus.)

About the Program

The vocal studies at the HfM Würzburg offer a broad spectrum of artistic and artistic-pedagogical training geared towards the professional requirements of professional singers. The program includes individual or group lessons in singing, correpetition, scenic performance, speech training, phonetics, Italian, teaching practice, and numerous other teaching offers. The university-owned, modernly equipped theater provides ideal conditions for vocal training. Every semester, a musical theater production is developed and publicly performed under professional conditions. Additional performance opportunities exist through cooperation with departments of Early and New Music, Choral Conducting, and Chamber Music. The program also focuses on song composition, with themed programs developed in Lied classes and presented in recitals. Regular master classes and workshops with renowned singers expand the training. The bachelor's degree program aims at careers as soloists or chorus singers at opera houses or in tariff-bound choirs, provides skills for teaching positions, and prepares students for independent careers as opera or concert singers. The program offers two profiles: concert vocal performance and opera vocal performance. Students acquire a sound, healthy singing technique and learn to use their voice and body flexibly and responsibly for long-term professional practice. The program focuses on developing an independent artistic personality and interpretation skills for opera, concert, and song literature within their historical and stylistic contexts. Through interdisciplinary courses in the 'Professionalization' module, students gain additional skills to remain competitive in professional life. Key competencies include technical mastery of the vocal instrument, development of an individual artistic profile, independent interpretation of repertoire from different epochs and genres, ensemble and stage experience, chamber music skills, project planning and execution, self-marketing, and occupational health maintenance techniques.
