Bachelor of Music (B.Mus.)

About the Program

The objective of the course is to produce singing actors – independent artistic personalities who can meet the practical demands of today's music profession. The necessary prerequisites are professional mastery of vocal technique and musical styles in interpretation and performance, professional drama training, and a deep knowledge of the dramaturgical and aesthetic aspects of the operatic literature. The course offers concentrations in song, oratorio and music theatre. In the initial part of the course, the close cooperation between all of the Folkwang fields related to theatrical training means that students receive a comprehensive grounding in disciplines such as movement, body training, dance, pantomime, acting and scene-work. Internationally renowned specialists guarantee an exceptionally high level of training. The programme has a collaborative project with "Musiktheater im Revier" in Gelsenkirchen. This takes the form of an opera studio, where selected advanced students can gain practical experience as regular ensemble members. The course produces an opera twice a year (in June and in December) in collaboration with the orchestra of the Folkwang University of the Arts.
