Volkswirtschaftslehre

Master of Science (M.Sc.)

About the Program

The Master's program in Economics (Volkswirtschaftslehre) examines complex economic relationships such as resource scarcity, the role of currencies, and the relationship between family, market, and state. In the 21st century, with the rise of Asian emerging economies, globalization, and demographic change, classical economic topics gain new importance. The program is structured into mandatory, elective, and optional modules, totaling 120 credit points (LP). Students can specialize in specific areas of economics within three elective modules during the first two semesters. In the third semester, students can take modules from Business Administration, Demography, and Sociology in addition to economics electives. The fourth semester concludes with the master's thesis. The degree provides the basic requirements for further academic qualification (e.g., doctorate). The program prepares students for typical employment fields for economists, including economic and social policy institutions at national and international levels, ministries and associations, national banks and the ECB, economic departments of large companies, management consultancies, and economic journalism.
