Biomathematics

Master of Science (M.Sc.)

About the Program

Biomathematics deals with how mathematical methods and models can be used to answer biological questions and solve problems. Mathematical modeling of biological relationships plays a central role. The Master's program in Biomathematics offers students many choices and specialization opportunities. In biology, students choose one of three focus areas: molecular biology, ecology, or physiology and cell biology. In mathematics and bioinformatics, students have great freedom of choice. Special biomathematical lectures such as 'Stochastic Models in Biology', 'Molecular Evolution', or 'Discrete Modeling in Biology' are particularly recommended. The Master's program is completed by writing an independent Master's thesis, for which students can freely choose a topic from all areas of biomathematics - from theoretical to very practical. Graduates have very good career prospects in many industries, most commonly in biological, medical or pharmaceutical research, consulting, or biotechnology.
