About the Program

Biotechnology is an interdisciplinary and application-oriented science considered one of the key future technologies of our time. The Master's program builds directly on the Bachelor's degree and focuses on current scientific issues. It includes compulsory subjects (Bioprocess kinetics, Medical biotechnology, Mechanical process engineering, Methods of applied biotechnology, Data Science, Thermal Process Engineering) and allows students to choose a major and minor specialization from: Applied molecular and cell biology, Bioprocess Engineering, and Bioentrepreneurship (starting winter 2026/27). The program includes key qualifications courses, career preparation with industry excursions, a research internship, and concludes with a six-month Master's thesis. Students can complete their thesis at TU Braunschweig, major research institutions in the region, or with industry partners. The program benefits from cooperation with major research institutions in the region including the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI), Thünen Institute, German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures (DSMZ), and Julius Kühn Institute (JKI).
