Education Biology

Master of Education (M.Ed.)

About the Program

The Master of Education in Biology is designed for future Gymnasium teachers. The study programme builds on a two-subject Bachelor's degree with teacher training. While the Bachelor's degree focuses on essential scientific content, the Master's degree emphasizes educational science and subject didactics. Students complete two lecture series that present biology in a social context, providing a foundation for biological, socially relevant classroom discussions. The program follows a 'science meets didactics' concept, which began in the Bachelor's program. This includes a didactics lecture by the College of Education integrated with science in the Bertalanffy Lecture, where students either participate in workshops or join the SciencesGoesSchool project. The didactics component includes specific learning places - part 1 by the State Seminar for Training and Further Education of Teachers (SAF), and part 2 through (large) excursions. The completion of the M.Ed. qualifies graduates for the preparatory service (Referendariat) at gymnasiums and vocational schools.
