Environmental Science

Master of Science (M.Sc.)

About the Program

The Environmental Sciences program deals with processes in the living and non-living environment of humans. Due to the complexity of relationships, it is an interdisciplinary branch of natural sciences. While classical natural sciences are divided into fields such as physics, chemistry, biology, and geology, environmental sciences aim at an interdisciplinary examination of complex topics. This allows for holistic analysis of future tasks, increasingly pressing environmental problems, and the upcoming structural changes in industry and economy, developing sustainable solutions. This can only be achieved through the collaboration of various disciplines. Due to the complexity of environmental problems, trained environmental scientists must have knowledge and skills in several scientific disciplines. The program offers five specialized clusters (Biochemistry, Microbiology, Environmental Physics, Environmental Biology, and Environmental Chemistry/Environmental Analytics), from which students choose one according to their personal preferences. Additionally, modules from other clusters are selected, enabling a broad interdisciplinary range of subjects and high flexibility in individual module selection. During the third semester, an eight-week project internship and an eight-week company internship are planned. The fourth semester is reserved for the six-month master's thesis.
