Human biology

Master of Science (M.Sc.)

About the Program

The Master's program in Human Biology specifically qualifies students for biomedical research. Graduates research the molecular causes of diseases, creating the foundation for developing new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. Through their interdisciplinary education, Human Biology graduates are well-prepared for close collaboration with specialists from other fields (medicine, biology, pharmacy, chemistry, and bioinformatics). The two-year M.Sc. program provides advanced knowledge and complex methodological skills in human biological disciplines. The curriculum includes basic modules and specialization modules. Basic modules provide advanced knowledge in various areas of human biology (biochemistry and molecular cell biology, genetics, immunology, microbiology, pharmacology, physiology, virology) and key competencies (bioethics, laboratory animal science, bioinformatics). Students choose two specialization areas from seven biomedical disciplines (major and minor). In research-oriented exercises and project internships, students learn cutting-edge biomedical methods. The program emphasizes training for independent planning and implementation of research projects in teams. Students also complete an eight-week career-related internship. The scientific education concludes with an extensive master's thesis in which a research project is independently completed.
