About the Program

The International Master in Applied Ecology (IMAE) is a joint degree program where students follow a common mobility route for the first year before selecting their final institution for the second year. The program offers two specializations: 'Environmental Quality Assessment and Conservation' and 'Ecosystems Functional Analysis'. Students spend their first semester at the University of Coimbra (Portugal) with field courses in Mediterranean and Tropical Ecosystems (in Brazil), the second semester at Kiel University (Germany), and the second year at one of the consortium universities to complete their master dissertation. Students are awarded a Joint Degree 'MSc in Applied Ecology' issued by the University of Coimbra and Kiel University. Students who complete their MSc dissertation at one of the other universities in the consortium (UEA, UFRGS, or USask) will also receive a local MSc degree.
