Materials Science and Simulation

Master of Science (M.Sc.)

About the Program

The Materials Science and Simulation Master's program focuses on understanding how changes at the atomic level affect macrostructure, the physical structure and mechanical specifications of materials, and how materials like steel can be processed to meet specific requirements. The program integrates multi-scale simulation techniques with state-of-the-art experimental analysis processes in an interdisciplinary field. Students can specialize in areas such as multi-scale material modelling, physical and mechanical material properties, microstructure-property relationships, numerical modelling, material processing and characterisation, light elements in metallic alloys, and materials for aviation and aerospace applications. The international master's course is hosted by ICAMS and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. It is unique because it combines compulsory lectures in materials science, physics, numerical methods on different length and time scales, and programming. The course promotes a practical implementation of knowledge in project-related teamwork in an interdisciplinary environment.
