Mathematics

Master of Science (M.Sc.)

About the Program

Mathematics is a science that deals with problems ranging from ancient number theory to very modern computational problems. The master's degree program introduces students to mathematical research and opens up excellent prospects for later work. In this program, students acquire competencies necessary for independent scientific work. The program reflects the research spectrum of the Department of Mathematics, focusing on theoretical mathematics (algebra, geometry, analysis, mathematical physics, stochastics) and applied mathematics (modeling, simulation, optimization). The 4-semester program requires 120 ECTS credits, with 35 ECTS from the chosen field of study, 25 from other fields, and 20 from courses outside the Department of Mathematics. Students choose one of three fields of study: Algebra and Geometry, Analysis and Stochastics, or Modeling, Simulation and Optimization. The program culminates with a 6-month Master's thesis (30 ECTS).
