About the Program

The two-year Master's program in Mathematics is a scientifically research-oriented program that builds on the knowledge acquired in the Bachelor's program in Mathematics at RPTU in Kaiserslautern (or an essentially equivalent study program). The educational program emphasizes a broad mathematical education where students learn a generous variety of modern mathematical methods and where their ability to recognize connections and compare structures is promoted. On the other hand, students are specifically introduced to current mathematical research in their chosen field of study. In the chosen field of study, students must complete 18-21 credit points (LP) of advanced lectures, courses for independent scientific work under guidance (12 LP), at least one of the two required seminars (3 LP each), and the Master's thesis (30 LP). The curriculum also includes 18-21 LP each for lectures or lectures with exercises in Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, and the non-mathematical application subject. The program is flexibly structured with no mandatory subjects, but only prescribed scopes from certain subject catalogs. This allows students to enter application-oriented mathematical research according to their own abilities and inclinations. The Graduate School "Mathematics as a Key Technology" provides organizational support for semesters abroad. The broad education in mathematics with simultaneous specialization in one area, together with the additional knowledge acquired in the non-mathematical application subject and the key qualifications taught in the program, opens up diverse work opportunities for graduates.
