Meteorology and Climate Physics

Master of Science (M.Sc.)

About the Program

The Master's degree program in Meteorology and Climate Physics at KIT deepens and complements the scientific qualification acquired in a bachelor's degree. The program consists of four semesters (120 ECTS credits) with a research-oriented approach. The first year includes lectures, exercises, and practicals covering components of the climate system, climate dynamics, cloud physics, radiation, aerosols, chemistry, and atmospheric energetics. The second semester focuses on Experimental Meteorology (measurement platforms, practical courses, excursion to observatories) and Applied Meteorology (numerical weather prediction, air pollution, meteorological hazards). Students also select electives from other natural sciences and develop soft skills. In the third semester, students develop a scientific concept from the research portfolio of the Institute of Meteorology and Climate Research (IMK). The fourth semester is dedicated to completing a Master's thesis, demonstrating the ability to independently solve complex research problems.
