About the Program

The Master of Science in Physics at RUB offers a comprehensive study program with the possibility to individually set your focus. The program is divided into a two-semester study phase and a two-semester research phase. During the study phase, students complete their knowledge in experimental and theoretical physics, then gain insight into current research in a chosen focus area. Students can specialize in five areas: nuclear & particle physics, solid state physics, plasma physics, astronomy/astrophysics, or biophysics. The research phase begins with a three-month preparation period followed by a nine-month Master's thesis. The program aims to provide students with the necessary specialist knowledge, skills, and methods to carry out scientific work, critically classify scientific findings, and act responsibly in a professional setting.
